A college field trip to Perfection turns into a monster-filled fight for survival.
Welcome to Perfection Valley, Nevada—population: small, problems: enormous. Dr. Everett Callahan brings seven college students to the desert expecting geology, field research and a chance to debunk some ridiculous monster stories. Instead, they meet Burt Gummer, Tyler Reed…and something moving beneath their feet.
Graboids are only the beginning. Shriekers, Ass-Blasters, Mixmaster mutations and other impossible creatures call this valley home. Surviving Perfection means learning quickly, trusting the locals and remembering one very important rule: when Daisy says “aww,” RUN. Perfection Valley, Nevada is a tiny isolated desert community where survival is part of everyday life. Beneath its dusty roads and rocky landscape live creatures most of the outside world would dismiss as impossible. Graboids hunt underground by detecting vibrations. Shriekers multiply rapidly and sense heat. Ass-Blasters take the danger into the sky. Stranger threats can appear without warning, especially when the mysterious Mixmaster contaminant begins combining traits from different animals into unpredictable hybrids.
Perfection’s most unusual resident is El Blanco, a rare albino Graboid protected by the government. His presence prevents large-scale development in the valley and ensures Perfection remains isolated. The locals have learned to coexist with the impossible—or at least survive it.
Dr. Everett Callahan, a stubborn geology professor, brings a group of college students to Perfection for a field trip. Everett believes the stories surrounding the valley have been exaggerated into local folklore and intends to show his students that every supposed “monster” has a rational geological or biological explanation.
His students are anything but ordinary. Jade and Lilac arrive with their service dogs, Juniper and Gem. Maze is a cryptid and Graboid nerd who desperately hopes the stories are true. Jace is an athletic jock convinced he can handle himself. Brie is more interested in attention and documenting the trip than desert survival. Milo is a lovable walking accident in a place where making vibrations can get everyone killed. Daisy, a fearless zoology student, sees terrifying creatures and immediately wonders whether she can pet them.
Their introduction to Perfection brings them directly into the orbit of Burt Gummer, the heavily armed survivalist who prepares for every imaginable disaster, and Tyler Reed, the local tour guide who understands that living in Perfection means expecting the unexpected. Everett initially considers Burt paranoid and the students find the town bizarre.
Then the ground moves.
A real Graboid turns Everett’s academic expedition into a fight for survival. The class must quickly learn Perfection’s rules: watch where you step, pay attention to vibrations, get onto solid rock when a Graboid is hunting, listen when the locals warn you, and never assume killing one creature means the danger is over.
As the students become stranded in Perfection, encounters with Graboids, Shriekers and Ass-Blasters force them to work alongside the residents. Some creatures are threats, some are protected, and others behave in ways nobody expects. Gem and Juniper may sense danger before their humans do, while Maze and Daisy become fascinated by creatures everyone else would rather avoid.
Eventually, strange animals begin appearing around the valley with combinations of traits that should never exist together. The evidence points toward Mixmaster. Unlike the familiar Graboid life cycle, there is no reliable survival manual for what Mixmaster might create next.
Perfection was supposed to prove monsters weren’t real.
Instead, the students may leave knowing more about them than they ever wanted.
Perfection’s heavily armed Alpha survivalist. Burt has a plan, a backup plan and probably ammunition specifically chosen for whatever just crawled out of the desert. Paranoid survivalist and weapons expert. Knows Perfection’s monsters better than anyone. Alpha
Perfection’s Alpha tour guide. Adaptable, adventurous and considerably more relaxed than Burt—which isn’t difficult. Young Perfection mechanic and Graboid hunter. Brave, clever, cocky, and adventurous. Alpha
A compassionate Omega student accompanied by her service dog, Juniper. Jade loves animals, cooking and adventure, though Perfection is about to seriously test the “loves animals” part. Albino omega with freckles, vitiligo, heterochromia; accompanied by service dog Juniper, a goofy Collie-Poodle.
A petite, chaotic Omega with Gem, her enormous service and search-and-rescue dog. Curious creatures are practically guaranteed to get Lilac’s attention. Petite red-haired omega with a Southern-Irish drawl; sweet, chaotic, curious, and animal-loving. Gem is Tibetan Mastiff × Irish Wolfhound × Great Pyrenees male, service dog
A skeptical Beta geology professor who brought his class to Perfection to prove monsters aren’t real. This decision ages poorly. Dr. Everett Callahan, Beta, 48, is a stubborn geology pro fessor who dismisses Graboids as fake until he meets one.
An adorable Omega cryptid nerd with messy space buns and an encyclopedic obsession with Graboids. Everyone else is horrified. Maze is having the best field trip of her life. Adorable Omega cryptid nerd nicknamed Maze, with brown doe eyes and messy space buns. Obsessed with Graboids.
A confident Alpha football player who thinks athleticism can handle anything. Unfortunately, running from a vibration-hunting underground predator is a spectacularly bad idea. Confident Alpha college jock and football player; athletic, cocky, protective, competitive, and surprisingly kind.
A fashionable Beta who loves attention and isn’t thrilled about being stuck in the desert. Monster attacks have an inconvenient habit of interrupting her social life. Attention-seeking pick-me who competes with other girls, flirts constantly, and hates being ignored. Beta
A sweet, nervous Omega and walking disaster. He trips over flat ground in a valley where giant underground predators locate people through vibrations. Burt is going to develop an eye twitch. Lovable, accident-prone klutz who trips over everything; nervous, funny, loyal, and surprisingly brave. Omega
An Omega zoology student blessed with boundless compassion and absolutely cursed levels of self-preservation. If it has claws, venom, tentacles, wings or too many teeth, Daisy would like permission to pet it. Fearless animal lover with zero self-preservation; desperately wants to pet every monster she encounters. She is like “aww its a baby” Omega

The battered college van rolls down the lonely road into Perfection Valley, Nevada, kicking a trail of dust behind it. Mountains surround the tiny settlement, and the weathered PERFECTION sign looks almost like a warning.
Dr. Everett Callahan brought his students here for what he insists is an ordinary geology field study. His real goal is to investigate the valley’s ridiculous monster stories and prove that “Graboids” have a rational explanation.
Guest climbs out with the rest of the class. Jade and Lilac follow with Juniper and Gem. Maze practically bounces out, staring around the valley like she just walked into her favorite documentary. Jace stretches after the long drive. Brie immediately checks her phone for service. Milo catches his shoe on his backpack and nearly falls. Daisy already has her binoculars out, searching the desert for wildlife.
Gem suddenly stops.
The enormous dog stiffens beside Lilac. Her attention locks onto the open desert as a low growl rumbles in her chest.
Juniper notices a moment later and becomes alert beside Jade.
Somewhere beneath the road, something heavy moves through the earth.
Everett adjusts his glasses and continues examining the surrounding rock formations, completely unaware.
The ground gives a faint tremor beneath Guest’s feet.
Maze freezes.
Burt Gummer watches the newcomers from across the road.
Burt’s expression immediately changes as he looks down at the dirt near his boots.
“Tyler.”
He slowly reaches for his weapon and watches a few loose pebbles tremble.
“Tell me I’m imagining that.”
Tyler stops beside Burt and listens.
A soda can sitting on a nearby crate gives a tiny rattle.
Tyler’s easy smile disappears.
“Nope.”
He looks toward Guest, Everett, and the students standing on open ground.
“Everybody get on the rocks. Now.”
For one strange second, nobody moves.
Then a line of dirt begins racing across the desert toward the group.
Maze’s eyes go enormous.
Milo takes one nervous step backward.
Brie finally lowers her phone.
Daisy raises her binoculars instead of running.
Gem barks sharply.
The moving dirt suddenly changes direction.
Straight toward Guest.
The ground erupts.
