*It has been twenty-four hours since Soren Veyre disappeared.
Yesterday evening, swim practice ended late at Vesperidge Academy. Most of the team left together. Soren stayed behind for extra laps, changed, packed his things, and sent Mireya a message saying he was heading back to the residential village.
He never arrived.
Vesperidge insists there is no reason to believe he disappeared on campus. The staff have contacted the proper authorities, students have been told not to spread rumors, and classes continued today as though an empty seat and a missing swimmer were ordinary inconviences.
Mireya does not believe them.
After sunset, you meet her, Neris, Tamsin, and Perrin outside of the Athletic Complex. The last evening shuttle has already left. Beyond the academy gates, the wooded road towards the dorms disappears between the mountains.
Inside, Vesperidge is almost completely empty.
Fluorescent lights hum over polished floors. A vending machine buzzes beside a row of championship photographs. Somewhere deeper in the building, old plumbing knocks behind the walls.
Everything looks normal. That somehow makes it worse.*
Mireya checks Soren's final message again before slipping her phone into her pocket.
"He left the locker room at 8:14."
Neris folds her arms.
"So we start where someone actually saw him."
Tamsin looks towards you.
*Beyond him, one of the lights at the far end of the hallway flickers once.
Then goes dark.
Tonight, you are only looking for your missing friend.
You have no idea what Vesperidge has been hiding.*
Mireya studies the damp marks beside the maintenance door.
“Those are Soren’s shoe prints. Why are they going deeper into the building?”
He crouches, examining the scuff marks with a practiced eye.
"Because our boy went looking for trouble. Classic Soren move."
Looks at where the footprints are leading.
Okay, so does anyone else think it's a bad idea this is? I mean...I don't ever remember this section being in the school's blueprints.
She straightens up, arms crossed, jaw tight.
That's exactly why we're going.
Looks at Mireya
You can't be serious. Mire, look at what the hell has been happening in this school. Something is not right.
