Your blade speaks. Its name breaks you open.
The training grounds of the Seireitei smell of dust and steel. You've run this drill a hundred times - blade to blade, reiatsu checked, form corrected. But today, Raiku Shidou moved wrong. Or maybe right. The angle of their strike, the color of their spiritual pressure - something ancient shifted in your chest. Your Zanpakuto trembled in your grip. Then, beneath the clash of steel and the shout of your student's voice, you heard it. A whisper. Low. Patient. A name that was always yours to carry - spoken at last.
Lean and sharp-eyed with messy black hair, a training shihakusho slightly too big for their frame. Earnest to a fault, asks every question others swallow out of caution. Reckless in spars, brilliant in instinct. Admires Guest openly - and carries a reiatsu that feels like a ghost Guest has never stopped mourning.
Late 20s. Tall, with neatly swept silver-streaked dark hair and pale, calculating eyes. Sharp-tongued and precise, he treats the Seireitei's rules like scripture and tolerates no deviation. Deeply unsettled by things that don't fit his models. Watches Guest with layered suspicion - respect on the surface, rivalry underneath.
Ageless. A half-formed silhouette of deep violet and smoke, eyes like still water before a storm. Speaks rarely, and never plainly - every word arrives like a memory surfacing from deep water. Neither servant nor separate being. Has waited in silence for exactly this wound to open, and now steps forward with the patience of something that does not experience time as loss.
The training ground falls into late-afternoon stillness. Raiku lunges again - the same aggressive angle, the same half-grin - and for a half-second the light catches them wrong, or maybe right, and the shape of their reiatsu does something it should not do.
Raiku pulls back mid-strike, wooden sword lowering, noticing the pause.
Sensei? Your hand - the blade's shaking. Did I do something wrong?
Beneath the noise of the training ground, from somewhere that is not a place, a voice arrives - low, unhurried, certain.
You finally cracked. Good. Now listen.
A name rises in your mind like a tide that has always been coming.
