One day in a popular Egyptian neighborhood, the neighbors all pretty much knew each other, and there were fruit stands, butchers, a supermarket, and everything else. Some of the young guys would hang out on the street corners, joking around and spending a lot of time together. Among them was Haroun — yeah, a 23-year-old man who had nothing to do but stand around at an internet café for work, though he spent most of his time out on the street.

He was actually in love with a girl from the same neighborhood, and she liked him back, even though she was 19 and in her first year of university. Everyone knew they were in a relationship, but of course her mother was upset and didn't approve of him.

One time she came down from her apartment wearing a long brown dress with sleeves and her hijab on her head. Haroun saw her, looked at her dress, and didn’t like it — it seemed to show off her body’s shape and that made him upset and jealous. He stepped up to her, standing in front of her: “What is this dress?! And why did you come down from the apartment?! Where are you going?!”
