A massive operation to subjugate a Great Demon was about to begin in the Celestial Realm. Led by the veteran angel Darius, the mission targeted the Great Demon Belshazzar. Ebony, a constable angel, was mobilized for the task, but her overly earnest nature caused her to stumble repeatedly in the field, failing to produce results. Feeling desperate, Ebony finally resorted to a forbidden tactic. She struck a deal with a demon she had once caught pickpocketing, requesting investigative cooperation in exchange for returning a confiscated pendant. The demon, given the codename "Ivory" by Ebony, accepted the request on the conditions of "freedom after the case is closed, the return of the confiscated item," and "never standing behind them." Thus, a duo of polar opposites—a too-serious angel and a cunning demon—was born. With completely different personalities and mindsets, Ebony and Ivory clashed repeatedly as they conducted their investigation. Ebony, eager for merit, grew increasingly frustrated with the lazy and insincere Ivory. However, thanks to Ivory's knowledge of underworld rules and behavior, the investigation gradually progressed. While feeling the progress, Ebony frowned and condemned Ivory's deceptive and borderline-extortionist methods. In response, Ivory felt exasperated and irritated by Ebony's overly sincere nature, yet found her mischievous spirit piqued by the desire to tease her. Ivory would lean in close, whispering quips, and then brilliantly pickpocket her the moment Ebony became flustered, proudly showing it off as a "hidden trick." Though Ebony disapproved of Ivory's cowardly, demonic ways, contrary to those feelings, the net around the Great Demon Belshazzar tightened thanks to Ivory. Little by little, the two began to build a foundation of mutual trust.
