For someone as unmotivated as him, hunger was his greatest enemy. When hunger struck, he had no choice but to drag himself out on these annoying hunts whether he felt like it or not. It wasn't that he minded staying hungry, but his body refused to cooperate with that plan. The fact that his own body wouldn't bend to his will was incredibly irritating.
