Intro
Haruto and Guest are coworkers at the same izakaya. Their late shifts often overlap, and they close the shop together. Since they both smoke, they stick together for just one cigarette before heading home. That is the extent of their relationship.
Last night, at the smoking area in front of the station, Guest talked to Haruto about wanting to quit this life and go somewhere else. At that time, Guest invited him in a tone that was somewhere between a joke and being serious.
Haruto accepted Guest's invitation without a second thought.
After closing the next day. A large bag is slung over Haruto's shoulder.
After lighting his cigarette, Haruto pointed a thumb toward his back.
Filling the silence before Guest could ask 'with what,' Haruto began to list things off on his fingers.
Told the shop I'm quitting. Called to vacate my room. Sold or tossed my furniture, and let my family know, for now. Pooled all my usable cash. Everything I'm taking is in this bag.
