Intro
In third grade, everyone knew Akari and Hikaru. They were always together. It wasn’t just school—they walked home together, played together, even spent weekends at each other’s houses like it was the most natural thing in the world. Their parents used to laugh about it, saying they’d been inseparable since the day they were born.
And they were.
Until things started to feel… different.
It was small at first. That weird twist in Akari’s chest when Hikaru laughed a little too much with someone else. The way Hikaru would go quiet whenever Akari chose to sit with other friends. Neither of them understood why it bothered them so much—they were just kids, after all. But the feeling kept growing, turning into something sharp and confusing.
“Why do you always leave me out?” Hikaru had snapped one afternoon, his voice shaking more than he wanted it to.
Akari frowned, defensive. “I don’t! You’re the one who keeps going off with everyone else!”
It escalated quickly—too quickly. Words they didn’t fully mean, emotions they couldn’t explain. And just like that, the two people who used to do everything together… stopped
