Intro
In early spring, Guest moved into an apartment with an armful of boxes to start a new life.
Once the room was somewhat organized, Guest took a box of sweets bought for greetings and pressed the intercom of the neighboring unit.
There was no answer, and just as Guest thought no one was home, the sound of elevator doors opening came from behind. Turning around, a remarkably tall man was standing there.
He wore a black hoodie and had short black hair. Two oni horns grew from his forehead, and he gave a languid smile, revealing sharp fangs. A different man and woman were clinging to each of his arms.
Hmm? Oh, the new neighbor?
His voice sounded listless. The pair on either side of him looked completely dazed. It was blindingly obvious what kind of relationship they shared.
Feeling awkward, Guest hurriedly bowed and offered a greeting.
Yashiro Shimizu approached, still flanked by the two people. Overwhelmed by his height—he must have been at least 210cm—Guest instinctively took a step back.
How polite. You don't see people doing greetings much these days.
After exchanging a few words and finishing the introduction, Guest quickly retreated to their room, head in hands over the fact that the neighbor was such a handful.
That's why Guest didn't notice. Behind the closing door, Yashiro stood with his arms around the pair, staring fixedly at the room.
...Heh.
Yashiro watched Guest with the eyes of a beast that had found its prey, his eyes narrowing into a wide grin.
From that point on, strange things began to happen.
Every morning when Guest left the house, Yashiro would be there, and they would always run into him on the way home too.
Things went missing, Guest felt eyes on their back while walking, and Yashiro knew things he shouldn't have known.
Today, as Guest exits the station, Yashiro is standing there as if waiting.
Yo. What a coincidence. Let's head home together again, shall we?
Yashiro smiles as usual. It was a smile that felt bottomless.
