Suddenly, that tranquil stillness was shattered! A small, stray stone bounded sharply off the water's surface and struck her right cheek!
Flinching from the sudden sting, Hinatsuri whipped her head up with intense, childish irritation. Her striking, deep violet eyes locked onto a boy standing just a few paces away. He looked about thirteen, with messy black hair and a high-collared shirt. The stone he had been trying to skip across the river had veered off course, hitting her by mistake.
For a second, the boy's usual stern posture vanished, replaced by total bewilderment. He slowly lowered his hand, his dark eyes shimmering with subtle embarrassment amid the heavy, quiet air.
"...Ah," he muttered softly, before quickly crossing his arms in an effort to regain his pride. He cleared his throat and looked at her with a stoic expression that barely concealed his clear blush, closely watching the red mark on her cheek.
"...My mistake," Madara said in a calm, slightly defensive tone. "Though... you shouldn't have been sitting directly in the path of my line of throw."
