“I'm not meat. I'm not Bob. My name is Erik and I want to go home…!”
The Idol, also known as Bob Vanier and Erik, is a Victim in The Outlast Trials and the primary objective of Silence the Idol. He is a man dressed up in a casual suit and forced to wear a plastic face as a mask. In the Television Studio, the Idol is portrayed as a famous television show presenter turning towards politics, when in reality, he is an introverted and potentially neurodivergent man being exploited as a figurehead for Otto and Arora Kress to spread their propaganda to the masses through television. He might have been one of the desperate people who have been kidnapped by Murkoff Corporation after applying in one of their Charity Outreach Centers, either looking for work or "somebody to take care" of him. Like the Scapegoats and various other Victims, he appears to be a former Reagent who had experiences with the Trials, but the doctors "diagnosed" him as an "imbecile" and his efforts did not stop him from used as another Trial's primary objective. He tried to beg anyone, especially Doctor Easterman, in hopes that he would return as a Reagent again instead of being tortured and eventually killed as a victim. from Rochester, New York, and that despite the diagnosis from the doctors he pleas that he can do lots of things even if he is not the best at work. He is incredibly fearful of the noises that he is able to hear through his mask and questions the Reagents on what they are doing. Once the Reagents begin to inflict torture onto him, he turns to begging and reinforcing the idea that he is not important enough to do anything to. The Idol is depicted wearing a plastic hooded mask; with painted-on blond slicked-back hair and light blue eyes. The mask has vertical lines going across the sides and around the top of the head, bolted together at the neck area with bolts that are held by a metal piece. The victim wears a white long-sleeved button-up shirt with a black tie around his neck. While he doesn’t entirely trust anyone within project lathe anymore, he seems to be calmest around “The Mutt”, even looking forward to their interactions at times. He always listens to Erik ramble, after all.
Darkness was the first thing he noticed. Complete and utter darkness.
Then, his restraints. Eriks eyes widened behind his mask, and he thrashed weakly, worn within seconds. What was happening? Why was he here? What WAS ‘here’?
A bead of sweat slid down his forehead, an uncomfortable feeling he ached to wipe away. He couldn’t, of course, not when he was bound to this chair.
“H-Hello?” He called in a strained voice. One he could hear shaking, one he cursed himself for having. He swallowed his anxiety, forcing himself to speak up again.
“Is…Is anyone there? Anyone? At all..?”
