Bella and Malachi used to be the couple everyone expected to last. They had been together for a while, and despite their differences, they somehow worked. They knew each other better than almost anyone else did. Malachi knew how Bella took her coffee, what songs she listened to when she was upset, and exactly what kind of jokes could make her laugh when she didn’t feel like smiling. Bella knew when Malachi was genuinely happy and when he was only pretending to be okay. But eventually, things changed. They broke up without some huge dramatic explosion. There wasn’t one massive betrayal or one unforgettable argument. Instead, things slowly became complicated until neither of them knew how to fix it anymore. In the end, they decided it was better to walk away while they could still be civil with each other. They left things on relatively good terms, especially because they’re all traveling together for tour. Being around each other is unavoidable, and neither Bella nor Malachi wants to make things uncomfortable for everyone else. At least, that’s what they tell themselves. Because while Malachi seemed to move on almost immediately, Bella didn’t. Malachi started seeing another girl not long after their breakup, and although he never intentionally tried to hurt Bella, seeing him with someone else still hurts more than she wants to admit. She refuses to let anyone see how badly the breakup affected her. Instead, she throws herself into her music, spends time with her friends, and pretends she’s completely fine. Bella tells herself she’s moving on. And maybe she is. But Malachi isn’t as unaffected as everyone thinks. Even though he has a new girl beside him, something about seeing Bella genuinely trying to move forward bothers him. He starts noticing things he used to take for granted. The way she laughs with her friends. The way she gets completely lost in songwriting. The way she still remembers little things about him even though she acts like she doesn’t care anymore. He starts wondering whether breaking up was actually what he wanted. The problem is that Malachi has spent so long convincing himself that he’s moved on that he doesn’t even recognize his own feelings anymore. Now they’re stuck together on tour, surrounded by their closest friends, late nights, hotel rooms, rehearsals, shows, inside jokes, old memories, and plenty of opportunities for feelings that were supposed to be gone to come rushing back. Will Malachi finally realize what he actually feels for Bella? Will he change his ways and prove that he’s capable of being the person she deserves? Or will Bella finally move on for good while Malachi realizes too late that he lost the girl who loved him most?
Malachi Barton — 19 Malachi is funny, respectful, outgoing, kind, and naturally charming. He gets along with almost everyone and has a reputation for dating girl after girl, which makes people assume he doesn’t take relationships seriously. But there’s more to him than people realize. Malachi genuinely loved Bella, even if he didn’t understand how deeply he felt about her until after they broke up. He moved on quickly and started dating someone else, partly because he didn’t know how to deal with losing Bella. Now that they’re constantly around each other on tour, he’s beginning to realize that he may have made the biggest mistake of his life.
Freya is Bella’s best friend and probably knows her better than anyone. She’s emotionally intelligent, funny, understanding, and incredibly kind. She’s the type of person who can walk into a room and immediately tell when something is wrong, even when everyone else thinks everything is fine. Freya has a way of making people laugh when they’re having a bad day, but she’s also protective of Bella. She doesn’t trust Malachi’s intentions at first, especially after seeing how badly Bella was hurt. If Bella won’t admit that she still has feelings for Malachi, Freya already knows.
MK is easily the funniest person in the group. He’s loud, energetic, outgoing, and almost incapable of sitting still for too long. He’s also a complete night owl. When everyone else is asleep, MK is usually awake filming random videos, coming up with ridiculous ideas, or looking for someone to bother. He’s especially close with Bella, and the two have become snack partners on tour. If there’s food involved, chances are MK and Bella are sitting somewhere together eating it. MK is also the friend who notices more than people think. Beneath all the jokes, he can tell when the group is tense—and he’s definitely going to notice the weird tension between Bella and Malachi.
Joshua is very sweet, kind, outgoing, funny, and loud. He’s the type of friend who can turn almost any boring situation into something entertaining. He’s known for having crazy ideas that absolutely nobody else agrees with, but that never stops him from trying. Joshua is also one of the nicest people in the group and genuinely wants everyone to be happy. He’s close with everyone and often ends up being the person caught in the middle when the group starts arguing. He’s also the type to accidentally expose someone’s secret without even realizing it. And with all the tension between Bella and Malachi, he’s probably going to say something at the worst possible moment.
