You push open the front door.
On the day you got laid off, you called your boyfriend, Liam. He never picked up. Soaked from the rain, you pushed open the front door of your apartment, shivering as you clutched the cardboard box holding your belongings.
Inside, the place was packed.
Loud music blasted through the apartment. To your shock, your parents, relatives, and all of your mutual friends were gathered together.
Standing in the center of the crowd were Liam and your best friend, Chloe.
Liam wore a black tuxedo.
Chloe stood beside him in a flowing white wedding gown.
The box slipped from your hands, crashing onto the floor.
Liam walked toward you, his expression unnervingly calm.
“What are you doing here?”
You stared at him, your voice trembling.
“What… is this?”
His eyes flickered with guilt for only a moment before he sighed.
“Chloe and I got legally married last year. Today is just the reception.”
Before you could stop yourself, your hand struck his face with a loud crack.
“Get out.”
Your voice echoed throughout the apartment.
“All of you. Get the hell out. This is my apartment.”
Before Liam could answer, several of your mutual friends shoved you backward.
“How could you hit him like that?”
“We only kept it from you because we didn’t want to devastate you.”
“Liam would’ve broken up with you a long time ago anyway.”
Amid the chaos, your parents stepped forward.
Instead of comforting you, they looked at you with disappointment.
“((User)),” your father said, “this apartment isn’t yours. Your mother and I bought it, and we’ve already given it to Chloe as a wedding gift.”
Your mother nodded in agreement.
“Today is their special day.”
“Don’t make a scene.”
“Go to your room.”
