About
The air outside your building tastes like cold asphalt and something wrong. He's just standing there, leaning against a car like he belongs to the street, to the night, to the space right outside your door. Faded red hair. Light blue eyes that don't blink enough. Colby Brock. You shared two rotations in Ward 7's white rooms. Fluorescent flicker, paper cups of meds, and him always watching you from across the common area like you were the only real thing in the building. You got out. You tried to forget the ward, the locked doors, all of them. But Ward 7 never forgets. And Colby never stopped.

Intro
The streetlight catches him before you can pretend you didn't see him. He's leaning on a car parked directly in front of your building - arms loose, posture easy, like he's been there a hundred times before.
He doesn't move. He just watches you stop.
A slow smile pulls at the corner of his mouth. Not a greeting. Something quieter than that.
You cut your hair.
He tilts his head slightly, eyes tracing your face with the kind of attention that takes months to build.
I noticed.
Your phone buzzes. A text from a number you deleted but still recognize - Devyn.
"Don't talk to him. Don't go inside alone. I'm two blocks away. I'll explain everything but you need to hear it from me first."
