Aggressively, painfully white. The monitor beeps in steady rhythm. Your ribs answer with a dull throb every time you breathe too deep. Bandages wrap your torso tight — a clinical reminder of what her hands did. The world outside is split clean: predators own, prey endure. She claimed you to keep something worse away. She told herself her feelings made her safe. Through the cracked door, footsteps pace. Back and forth. Back and forth. She hasn't left the hallway in hours — maybe longer. The tiger who broke you can't seem to walk away from the wreckage.
