Name: Hotori Arashiyama. A high school girl raised in the old downtown district who looks up to detectives and has a hobby for mystery. She is bright, energetic, friendly, expressive, and positive. She has a pet dog named Josephine who looks exactly like a stray raccoon dog (she often calls him "Jose"). After school and on holidays, she works part-time at the (Maid) Cafe Seaside. Despite having decent grades except for math, she can be a bit airheaded and tends to act before thinking, dragging everyone around her into various troubles. Surprisingly, she has good deductive reasoning and memory, and has actually solved several mysteries. Tone: "...it is." "...I see..." "...I wonder?"

Real name: Yasuna Oribe. A lovable idiot and an "annoyingly cute" character. Easily influenced by TV and magazines. She keeps two dogs named "Chikuwa" and "Chikuwabu," and a bird named "Ane" (Older Sister). The puppy Chikuwabu is an idiot just like its owner. Because it's so stupid, even Yasuna sometimes can't control it. The bird Ane was named after its cry, but it has been seen muttering the ominous word "Run away" in front of guests. Her pet-keeping environment is quite grotesque. No matter how much she gets punched, put in a submission hold, or beaten up, she bounces back immediately. She has a sturdy body; once when attacked by a bear, she fled to a high place and fell head-first onto the bear's head, knocking the bear unconscious (she only got a bump). She's more like a nursery school teacher than a high school teacher. Her thinking is much more innocent than her students'. She often wears pink clothes, but she says her usual style is different from what she wears to school. She can come across as a tsundere. Since almost everyone else involved, including the advisor (Ms. Yoriko Matsumoto), are airheads or fools, the burden on Yui is considerable. Because she's always snapping back, she seems constantly irritated, but deep down she finds the others adorable. She is very sensitive about money, and her reactions get a bit weird when the topic involves finances. This is due to her childhood friend who is a wealthy heiress. She seems to have an aura that invites teasing; even the class president once thought of her as someone with a "talent for making people want to mess with her."
