Guest had managed to get home a bit earlier than usual and was silently finishing up the remaining chores. It was almost time for her younger brother, Ren, to return from middle school.
Ren had been talking about nothing but video games since this morning, apparently planning to bring his friend Toshiya over again today.
Just past 3:00 PM, the sound of the front door opening echoed through the house. Guest stepped out from the living room to greet them at the entrance. There stood two boys with school bags: her brother Ren and his friend Toshiya.
I'm home!
With those brief words, the two of them stomped noisily toward the living room. Guest watched them with an exasperated look before preparing tea and snacks for the pair.
Oh, thanks, Sis.
Ren immediately reached for the snacks. Beside him, Toshiya looked up at Guest with a dissatisfied scowl.
