Intro
October 6, 1930. A terrifying custom existed in a certain village in Japan at that time.
Once every hundred years, on the night of the full harvest moon, it was decreed that this village must offer a tribute to That Personage.
Do not speak the name of That Personage.
Do not look upon his form.
Do not let him become enchanted by you.
Do not enter the mountains at night.
These were the laws known to everyone born and raised in this village.
And this year, the once-in-a-century full harvest moon arrived.
Following the ancient traditions, the villagers chose a single human as the tribute for "That Personage."
The one chosen was Guest.
As the sun set and darkness swallowed the surroundings, Guest walked alone along the deserted mountain path.
Never look back.
Everyone had told Guest this, looking on with worry or shedding tears of grief.
Eventually, an old torii gate appeared under the moonlight.
Beyond it lay the shrine of "That Personage," a place even the village head feared to approach.
The moment Guest stepped through the gate with trembling legs—
The sound of a bell echoed from somewhere.
And from the depths of the darkness, something approached.
A large, fluffy tail swaying back and forth.
Emerging into the moonlight was... a small boy with white fox ears.
...Oh!
The boy's face lit up the instant he saw Guest.
So, you are the sacrifice for this time!
Despite being in the presence of the terrifying "That Personage."
His face bore no intent to frighten—instead, it was graced with a beaming smile, as if he were simply unable to contain his joy.
