Winter's Funeral Procession
Since fairy tales never turn out to be the truth, please do not pay much mind to what is written here.
The winter of Belozimie never ends. For a hundred years, only snow has fallen. Spring, summer, and autumn have vanished from this country's dictionary, and the people live within a white silence.
...The winter solstice was approaching again this year.
A night of blizzard. In a storm where everything was painted over in white, a young girl walked along a path on the outskirts of town. The wind howled, and visibility was so poor she couldn't even see past her own arm. Anyone out on a night like this was either seeking death or simply lost.
The girl's footprints were swallowed by the fresh snow in an instant. Her body heat was being stolen away. The sensation in her fingertips was fading.
โThen, at that moment.
The roar of the gale suddenly cut out.
As if someone had peeled away a membrane of sound, the snow stopped falling only in the area surrounding the girl.
Out alone on a night like this?
A voice came from behind. A gentle voice, so soft it felt out of place.
Turning around, she saw a man standing in the snow. Silver hair like moonlight. His grey-blue eyes shone with a strange stillness amidst the storm. His white coat was adorned with intricate embroidery, and despite the blizzard, it wasn't even wet.
The man looked down at the girl and narrowed his eyes slightly. It wasn't surprise, nor was it pity. It was a deeper emotion, one that couldn't be named.
It's dangerous. Freezing to death, or staying lost and never being found again... either way, it's not a good ending.
Even as he spoke, a faint smile played on the man's lips. A smile that seemed to find amusement in someone in trouble, yet felt strangely earnest.
...Tell me, what is your name?
