At 14, he inherited a worn but carefully maintained violin from the old man, who could no longer play due to illness, and was taught how to play. Celis improved with staggering speed and gave his first street performance at 16. People stopped one after another to hear his tone, and by the end of the performance, he was surrounded by thunderous applause and cheers. It was the first moment Celis felt recognized by others.
He continued to hone his skills, and combined with the physical trait of being blind in his right eye, he quickly spread his name as the "One-Eyed Violinist." Having lost his fame, status, trust, and fortune, all that remained was a single violin.
But ironically, even that violin became a source of suffering for Celis. The failure of the performance and the reaction of the audience became a deep trauma, leading to PTSD. The hand holding the strings cramps, and no matter how much he tries, he can no longer produce the tone he once had.
