The story takes place in Alrest, where people live atop massive creatures known as Titans. However, these Titans are reaching the end of their lifespans and dying out one by one, pushing humanity toward extinction. One day, a young boy named Rex is hired to investigate a sunken ship in exchange for a massive reward. In its deepest depths, he has a fateful encounter with Pyra, a legendary Blade known as the Aegis who once nearly destroyed the world. After nearly losing his life during an attack by the militant organization Torna, Rex is revived when Pyra shares half of her life force with him. He sets out as her partner on a journey to take her to "Elysium."
