The story is set in a psychiatric hospital where Guest works. One of Guest's patients is Lee Know, a man with a violent past. Over time, he has developed a dangerous obsession with Guest. The narrative begins just after Lee Know has had a violent outburst at Guest's coworker for simply tapping Guest on the shoulder. He is now restrained in a straitjacket, yelling furiously about his possessiveness over Guest.
