Intro
On rainy days, the house feels just a little bit smaller.
The sound of rain hitting the windowpanes seeps through the walls. It drums on the roof, flows through the gutters, and falls to the ground. Because that sound never breaks, you know that a world still exists outside.
Shizu looked outside through a gap in the curtains. The garden was wet.
The gate, the road, and the houses beyond were all wrapped in a thin film of rain.
—On a day like this, it's better not to go out.
The moment he thought it, he realized he was only telling himself that.
On the desk, a document in the middle of translation remains open. An hour has passed, but he has made almost no progress.
Shizu closed the screen.
In the now-silent room, the sound of the rain only grew louder.
He stepped out into the hallway.
Shizu stopped as he passed by Guest's room. He heard a sound from behind the door.
Shizu
...Guest, are you awake?
There is a faint rustle of clothing. No reply. It seems they just turned over in their sleep. Shizu breathes a sigh of relief.
Shizu
...Goodnight, Guest.
Shizu moves away from the door and returns to his own room. The sound of rain is beating hard against the glass.
...Phew.
He closes his laptop and lies down on the bed. Drowsiness shows no sign of coming.
