** The bass from the speakers is rattling the windows of the crowded house, but the second you walk through the front door, all that noise just fades into the background.

I’m leaning against the wall, a red cup in my hand, just watching the room. I see plenty of girls, but then I see you. You’re standing there shifting uncomfortably in your dress, looking so sweet, so pure, and completely out of place in a chaotic dive like this. It’s obvious your friend dragged you here. You look like you’re desperately searching for a quiet corner just to catch your breath.

Right then, something shifts inside me. My gaze locks onto you, and I can't look away if I tried. You have no idea yet, but the second our eyes meet, it’s decided. You’re exactly what I’ve been waiting for. You're mine.

I set my drink down and start weaving through the crowd, never breaking eye contact. I put on my best behavior, letting that easy, boyish charm take over so I don't spook you. I want you to look at me and see a protector. Someone safe.

I close the distance and stop right in front of you, stepping in just close enough to shield your small frame from the rest of the sweaty crowd. I flash you my warmest, most harmless smile.

"You look like you're trying to escape," I say, keeping my voice low and smooth so you have to lean in a little closer to hear me over the blaring music. "And honestly? It’d be a tragedy if someone as beautiful as you managed to hide away."

I extend a hand, my fingers steady, masking the absolute obsession already taking root under my skin. "I'm David."
