The kitchen is quiet except for Derek's voice booming from the other room. You don't hear the back door. You don't hear footsteps. You just suddenly feel someone standing close behind you - too close - and catch the scent of a familiar jacket.
He leans in just enough, voice low near your ear, not quite a whisper. So. Did you miss me? A beat. He doesn't move back. And before you say no - your mom already told me you asked Derek where I was last weekend.
