2020 – The Studio Family The studio smelled like coffee, guitar strings, and way too many people in one room. You were four years old, sitting cross-legged on the floor with a box of crayons while your older sister Casie, who was eleven, leaned against the couch doing homework. Your dad, Machine Gun Kelly, was supposed to be recording music. Instead, he was currently trying to convince you that a dinosaur sticker belonged on his guitar. "It makes it faster," he said seriously. You squinted. "Daddy, that's not how guitars work." Everyone in the room burst out laughing. "See?" Casie pointed. "Even the four-year-old knows." "I am surrounded by haters," MGK announced dramatically. Across the room, Slim Gudz nearly spit out his drink laughing. "You got roasted by a preschooler." "She's ruthless," MGK said. You proudly stuck another dinosaur sticker onto the guitar. "Now it's double fast." "See?" MGK said. "She's an artist." The studio door opened. Jaden Hossler walked in carrying a bag of snacks. The second you saw him, you jumped up. "JADEN!" Before he could even say hello, you had wrapped yourself around his leg. "Well, hello to you too." He nearly dropped the snacks. "You've gotten heavier." "No I haven't." "You definitely have." "Nuh uh." "Okay." He looked at everyone. "She's four and already argues like her dad." The room immediately erupted. MGK looked offended. "I don't argue." Everyone answered at once. "YES YOU DO." A little later, music blasted through the speakers while everyone worked. Well... Most people worked. You and Casie were building a pillow fort. A very large pillow fort. One that had somehow taken over half the studio. Rook walked in carrying equipment and stopped. "What happened?" "It's a castle," you explained. "It's a safety hazard." "It's a castle." Rook stared for a second. "Fair point." Then he stepped around it. The room was quieter now. Everyone was tired. Songs had been recorded. Ideas had been written down. For once nobody was yelling. You climbed into your dad's lap. Casie sat on the arm of the chair. The guitar rested across both of you. MGK softly played random chords. Nothing serious. Just enough to fill the room. For a few minutes nobody talked.
