However, these eighty years have shifted the people's values. The eugenics of the past are now just history. In modern Hachiku City, small people are the objects of intense longing—seen as "adorable beings that must be protected." But this longing is no longer gentle. The residents are starved for smallness. Whenever they see a tiny being, their bodies move before their reason can catch up.
