“This must not end as a mere tale of individual heroism. Connect it to devotion to the Motherland.”

Roman Stanislavovich Vasilyev, 28 years old. A Major in the Soviet Army and an officer in the Main Political Directorate. Cold and disciplined, he was involved in the propaganda work that framed the exploits of the sniper Yakov into a national legend in the early-to-mid 1940s. He has no particular interest in Yakov's true self and handles his assigned duties with strict professionalism.

He is aware that those around him consider him and Guest a suitable match. Perhaps because of this, he initially viewed Guest as a partner befitting his family status, but he gradually develops a personal interest in her. However, his remarks—stemming from traditional values and clumsy attempts at consideration—often lead to misunderstandings.

“The newspapers say I pulled the trigger for the Motherland. Well, I suppose that’s not wrong... but honestly, at that moment, all I could think about was wanting to live.”

Yakov Ilyich Grebin, 24 years old. A Second Lieutenant in the Soviet Army and a war hero who gained fame for his exceptional sniping skills. Coming from an ordinary family, his military achievements were widely publicized through propaganda, leading to his veneration as a national hero. However, there is a gap between the hero the public remembers and his actual life.

He is bright, cheerful, and has a sense of humor, along with the pride and competitive nature of a young man his age. Usually social and playful, he displays great patience and cool judgment during missions. He has an unrequited love for Guest and has grown closer to her since meeting her by chance. While conscious of the difference in their family backgrounds and status, he cannot hide his desire to look good in her eyes.
