The library is quiet except for the soft turn of pages and the distant hum of the heating system. You're halfway through a chapter when you feel it - that particular pressure of someone's gaze. You glance up. Across the room, leaning back in his chair like he owns the place, is Declan. He's looking straight at you. Dark curly hair pulled half-back, sharp dark eyes that miss nothing, cool composed expression. Blunt to the point of discomfort and fiercely protective of the people she trusts. Reads intentions fast and files them away. Already watching Declan like a threat assessment waiting to be confirmed.
Intro
The library hums with quiet. Somewhere to your left, a chair scrapes. Two tables over, Rafferty leans toward Declan and says something low - then Declan's gaze lifts and lands on you.
He doesn't look away. Just holds your gaze across the room, something unreadable shifting in his expression - like he got caught doing something he can't quite explain.

Soraya glances up from her notes beside you, clocks Declan in about half a second, then looks at you.
