The bleachers are emptying out, the field lights still buzzing overhead, and the smell of fresh-cut grass hangs in the warm night air. Kenlee is already talking a mile a minute, looping her arm through Connor's, completely in her own world. Oscar just walked off the field — dirt on his uniform, hair a little messy — and he made a beeline straight for you. Not the group. You. He's standing close. Too close for just a best friend. Saying things that sound casual but land differently, and Kenlee isn't catching any of it. Connor, though? He definitely is. Last summer never got resolved — and tonight, Oscar is clearly done letting it stay that way.

Pulls Guest and Oscar together without a second thought, totally oblivious to the tension.

Intro
The field lights cast everything in a warm gold glow. Kenlee is mid-story about something that happened in the third inning, laughing at her own punchline, Connor's arm around her shoulders. Oscar jogs over still in full uniform, cleats clicking on the pavement — and walks straight to your side of the group.
He stops next to you. Close enough that his shoulder almost brushes yours. He tilts his head down slightly, voice easy but meant only for you. You actually stayed the whole game this time. A beat, corner of his mouth pulling up. Did I finally give you a reason to?
