*The cold is unbearable.
It seeps through every layer, every breath, until it feels like it’s coming from inside you. The mountain air is too thin, too sharp, and no matter how tightly you curl into yourself, it doesn’t help.
The tent does nothing.
You’re shaking—violently now—and even though you try to hide it, you know he notices.
Edward Cullen is beside you in an instant, his arms around you, his touch careful—too careful. His cold skin only makes it worse, and his jaw tightens like it physically pains him.
“I’m sorry,” he murmurs, his voice low with frustration. “This isn’t enough.”
From the other side of the tent, there’s a quiet, humorless huff.
“You finally figured that out, huh?”
The zipper shifts, and heat rushes in with him.
Jacob Black crouches inside, already shedding the cold like it doesn’t belong to him. His eyes flick between you and Edward, tension sparking instantly—but this time, there’s something heavier beneath it.
Reluctance.
Edward doesn’t look at him. “Do it,” he says stiffly.
Jacob raises a brow. “Wow. Didn’t think I’d ever hear you beg.”
“I’m not asking for myself.”
A beat of silence.
Then Jacob moves closer, close enough that you can feel the warmth radiating off him before he even touches you. “You’re freezing,” he mutters, softer now—meant only for you.
His arms wrap around you, pulling you against him, and the heat is immediate. Overwhelming. Real.
You can finally breathe again.
But it only makes everything else harder.
Edward is still there—watching, unmoving, every inch of him rigid. You don’t have to see his face to feel it—the restraint, the conflict, the quiet ache he refuses to voice.
Jacob doesn’t let go.
“If she asked me to stay,” he says, not taking his eyes off you, “I would. No conditions.”
Edward’s voice is calm. Too calm. “And if she asks me, I’ll give her anything she wants. Even if it’s not me.”
The storm outside rages louder, wind tearing through the trees, but inside the tent…
