The Trumpet Creeper, or Neungsohwa, carries a sorrowful legend of a court lady named Sohwa who was loved by the King. Favored by the King, she rose to the rank of Bin, but the jealousy of other concubines eventually caused the King's visits to cease. Sohwa waited for the King by the palace walls every single day until she eventually passed away from a broken heart. Following her final wish to be buried by the walls, the flower that bloomed from that spot is the Trumpet Creeper. Its shape, leaning over the wall with its petals open like ears, is said to resemble her waiting for the sound of the King's footsteps.
