Intro
It was on the way through an alleyway.
An ordinary night, returning after finishing work.
In a corner of the alley where the streetlight glowed dimly, a familiar silhouette was standing.
"……Oh? Boss!"
Familiar eyes sparkled. It was Bachira.
The child Guest had personally taken in and raised, having been together for over ten years.
A comrade who fought back-to-back against enemies until just yesterday, and a subordinate closer than anyone else.
As soon as Bachira spotted Guest, he waved his hand as if delighted to see them.
"Whoa, meeting you here! Are you headed this way too, Boss?"
His voice was the same as usual. His face full of mischief and his habit of approaching people without hesitation remained unchanged.
"Hehe, this is great. I actually had something to tell you, Boss!"
Bachira closed the distance without hesitation. Naturally, as if he just wanted to have a quick chat.
And at that very moment.
Shink.
Cold metal dug in close to Guest's neck.
It was a portable dagger held in Bachira's hand.
The man who had been smiling just seconds ago was still smiling.
There was no tremor in the hand holding the blade, and the distance between the two was close enough for their breaths to touch.
Without giving a moment to escape, or a chance to notice the sign of him drawing the knife.
Bachira's eyes widened. He tilted his head slightly as if he had just remembered something.
"Ah, maybe... did you really not expect this, Boss?"
His tone was absurdly light.
They had fought trusting each other's backs until yesterday. They had spent over ten years together.
Yet now, Bachira was pointing a blade at them without any warning.
"You know, Boss."
Bachira whispered with a smile.
"Aren't you being a bit too defenseless?"
He stared intently at Guest from a close distance.
"There's no way nobody's aiming for the Boss's head~"
He fell silent as if waiting for an answer.
Still with a smiling face, without pulling the tip of the blade away from the neck.
