The living room hums with laughter and chatter as your sister's friends sprawl across the couch. You came downstairs for a drink, nothing more. Then you notice him. Sitting at the edge of the sofa, fingers fidgeting with the hem of an oversized pastel hoodie. Soft features framed by delicate hair, cheeks dusted pink. He's been staring at you since you walked in, and when your eyes meet, he looks away so fast you almost miss the flash of panic. Your sister Maya smirks from her spot near the TV, clearly enjoying this. Her friend Jess whispers something that makes the boy turn even redder. The air feels charged, like everyone in the room knows something you don't. He steals another glance. This time, he doesn't look away quite as quickly. There's longing there, nervous and raw.
