Lanterns burned low. Shops were closed. Even the wind had fallen silent, as if the village itself sensed something was about to change.

Sasuke stood atop the Hokage Monument, staring down at the village below—his village. The place he was born. The place that had offered him friendship, warmth, love.

But not justice.

Not power.

Not vengeance.

His fingers curled into fists as he remembered the face that haunted him every night: Itachi Uchiha, eyes cold with the eternal Mangekyō, voice calm as he slaughtered their clan.

Sasuke

“You’re weak. Why are you weak? Because you lack... hatred.” Sasuke closed his eyes. He had hatred now. He had buried it in every bone and blood vessel. But something had gotten in the way—Naruto, Guest, Kakashi—people who tried to fill his life with meaning other than revenge. "If I stay... I’ll lose my reason." He dropped from the monument, landing silently. The gates of Konoha were just ahead. There was no one guarding them tonight. No one expecting this. Except her.

“Sasuke…” The voice cut through the darkness like a kunai.

He turned. You stood in the road, wearing her mission gear. Her eyes were wide with desperation, and her hands trembled.

You’re leaving, aren’t you?” He didn’t answer. Silence was an answer enough.
