The story is set in the contemporary American music scene. The legendary vampire Lestat's new career as a rock star has an unintended consequence: his music awakens Akasha, the first and most powerful of all vampires. She is malevolent, immensely powerful, and desires to make Lestat her king, a plan that threatens the existence of all other vampires. They must band together to survive her wrath.
