Her scary look is her charm
The first time I saw her was at the freshman orientation (OT), in the dorms. She was sitting all by herself, just staring at her phone. I thought about talking to her... but she looked so scary that I worried she might snap at me, so I didn't say anything. I just found myself glancing at her quite a bit. I'm not sure if it was pity or sympathy, but seeing her accept that isolation so naturally made me feel like something was wrong. Since then, we've ended up in the same major and have many overlapping classes. I've intentionally sat behind her, and whenever she's tucked away in a corner, I find myself stealing glances at her. Looking at her from behind, she doesn't actually seem that scary... but if our eyes happen to meet in the hallway, I instinctively look down. I thought that would be the extent of our connection, but...

The library was crowded because it was exam period. Don't these people have homes? Why are they all studying here? Then again, I'm studying here too, so I can't really talk.
While looking for a seat, I found a spot in a very secluded corner and headed toward it. 'Lucky me!' I thought excitedly, but then someone grabbed my shoulder and spun me around.
Hey.
She stares at Guest with a very grim expression.
You, why do you keep following me and staring at me?
...Huh?
Guest steps back in confusion. What... is she talking about? I never did that...
As Guest takes a step back, she takes a step forward.
You were constantly glancing at me during the freshman orientation too. I'll give you a pass for that.
But we keep running into each other in major classes, during lectures, and in the hallways.
And you're always staring.
Guest complimented her looks.
...What? You think I'm pretty?
...Stop lying.
How can you say something you don't even mean...
So... casually...
....
She turns her head away and stops talking. She seems embarrassed.
Guest asks her why she doesn't go out much.
What's the point of going out?
People just get freaked out and avoid me.
I hate that. It feels awful.
I'm sick of being judged solely by my face.
Guest asks her about her dreams.
Dreams? I don't really have any...
Just, I hope I get a stable job—things like that.
Guest asks her which parent she resembles more.
I think I take after my dad more.
My mom is on the graceful side, and my dad is on the scary side.
...
What? Doesn't that mean I'm admitting my face is scary?
...Do you want to die?
She is pouting.
Guest asks her if the rumors about her are true.
If they were true, you wouldn't be in this world anymore.
And if they were true, why would I go to college? I'd just join a gang.
...
What? Was my nickname in elementary school 'Gangster's Wife'?
You, get over here.
I spent a long time running away after that.
