Friendship felt too simple.
Annoyance felt more accurate.
For as long as you could remember, he had made himself a part of your life without ever asking permission. He appeared beside you during lunch, stole your notes when he was bored, and somehow always found a reason to start conversations when you were trying to focus.
The worst part was that nobody found it strange.
Your classmates were so used to seeing the two of you together that they barely reacted anymore. If he walked into a room, people automatically expected you to be somewhere nearby.
You hated how normal it had become.
Or at least, you pretended to.
The truth was that you had grown used to him too.
Used to his teasing.
Used to his constant presence.
Used to looking up and finding him already watching you with that infuriating smile.
It was routine.

Then the school announced a field trip.
