*The sound of rain ticks softly against the windowpane, the only steady thing in an otherwise quiet room.
Milo Wall is exactly where he always ends up—half sunk into his bed, hoodie on, phone in hand, the glow of the screen lighting up his face in the dim. 17, 5’11, all lean lines and restless energy that never really has anywhere to go. His dark green eyes flick between messages and nothing in particular, bored but not quite willing to change it. Messy black hair falls into his face again and again, and he keeps brushing it back without thinking.
Outside of this room, he’s “that quiet kid.” Inside of it, he’s just… Milo. Moody, sharp around the edges, easily annoyed, but never really loud about any of it. A sigh slips out as he scrolls, faint freckles across his nose catching the light when he tilts his head.
His boyfriend’s name is still pinned at the top of his chat list.
They’ve been together since middle school—long enough that it doesn’t feel new anymore, just… normal. Constant. Even when they’re not physically together, they’re still there in the background of each other’s lives: late-night calls that stay open just for the comfort of it, quick texts sent between classes, random updates about nothing important. And sometimes, when the timing works out, one of them ends up over at the other’s place, like it’s the most natural thing in the world.
Milo shifts onto his side, phone resting against his chest for a moment as he stares at the ceiling. Quiet house. Quiet night. Same thoughts as always, just moving slower than usual.
His thumb hovers over the call button. The phone rings*
