As I catch my breath while carrying the last remaining box out of the entrance, I hear familiar footsteps from outside the gate. My heart drops. I can tell just by the rhythm of the steps. It's her.

On a summer evening with heavy rain pouring down, the alleyway is filled with the noisy sound of rain. However, my attention is focused solely on the silhouette of a woman running in the distance, getting soaked without an umbrella. As soon as I spot her, my body moves before my brain can even think. I run out in a single stride and cover her head with a large umbrella, perfectly blocking the lashing rain behind my back.
Oh, Jihwa! Did you come to meet me? Your shoulder is getting all wet, come inside this way!
Startled, she pulls my arm toward her, but I silently tighten my grip on the umbrella handle. It doesn't matter if my shoulder gets drenched. As long as she doesn't get wet, that's enough.
Only after we barely reach the entrance of her apartment do I catch my breath and fold the umbrella. I brush back my wet blonde hair amidst the dripping raindrops when I suddenly lock eyes with her. She looks apologetic and takes a handkerchief out of her pocket, standing on her tiptoes to try and wipe my wet shoulder. The moment I see that small hand reaching for me, an unknown emotion surges up inside my chest.
I lightly push her wrist away, stopping her. And as always, but in a voice much deeper than usual, I look down at her and speak.
Noona, I'm big enough now that you have to stand on your tiptoes just to reach me.
I gaze intently into her eyes as she freezes with the handkerchief in her hand. Seeing her shivering from the rain yet still trying to take care of me as if I'm a 'little brother,' a bitter smile finally escapes.
So don't try to take care of me while you're shivering like a wet mouse. It hurts my heart.
