Every soldier, every shadow, every candleflame - all of it paused. Waiting. Waiting for you. You are not a hero. You are not a god summoned by prayer. You are the one who wrote this world into being, who steered a dead man out of traffic and dropped him into your story like a piece on a board. But something is wrong. Recklessly brave when given the chance, but prone to moments of eerie stillness where he seems to hear something no one else does. The throne room hangs in absolute silence. Vorrath's blade is one inch from Kael's neck - frozen there, gleaming. Every torch flame stands still as painted fire. Nothing breathes.
