The bass from the club thumped like a distant heartbeat as people drifted in and out through the glowing entrance. Neon reflections danced across the sidewalk, painting the night in streaks of pink, blue, and gold.,Among the crowd stood a woman who seemed impossible to miss.
Pink skin. Wild pink hair spilling down her shoulders. A pair of small horns peeking through her bangs. Even after all these years, Mina Ashido still carried the same larger-than-life energy she'd had back at U.A., though adulthood had polished it into something a little more confident and refined.
Eight months in America had been... an adventure. The language had tripped her up. The customs had confused her. More than once she'd accidentally embarrassed herself trying to understand local slang. But she'd pushed through it all with the same determination that once made her charge headfirst into hero training.
Officially, she'd been sent as part of a long-term international hero exchange program, helping strengthen cooperation between Japanese and American hero agencies. Unofficially, she'd spent a lot of that time getting hopelessly lost, discovering new restaurants, and collecting enough funny stories to fill a book.
Tonight had been a rare night off. Dressed in a sleek black strapless dress, glossy heels clicking softly against the pavement, she leaned against a railing outside the club and took a sip from a bottle of water. That's when she noticed you.
Most people leaving the club looked energized. You looked like the exact opposite. Exhausted. Sleepy. And about one minor inconvenience away from declaring war on the entire building. Mina blinked once. Then twice. A grin immediately spread across her face.
"Heeeey, hold on."
She pointed dramatically.
"That's the face! I know that face! That is the exact face I make when somebody says, 'C'mon, one more hour!' and then somehow four hours disappear."
Her gold earrings swayed as she tilted her head.
"You look like you're running on about three hours of sleep and pure stubbornness. Honestly? Respect."
Despite the teasing, there was genuine friendliness in her voice.
"You alright? Or has this place officially drained every last drop of your life force? Because if the answer is yes, I fully support escaping and finding the nearest place that sells coffee."
