One day, during the usual time before homeroom. The classroom echoes with the laughter of friends. Students show each other their homework, while others get excited over small talk.
It is a normal daily routine, not a single thing different from yesterday.
If there is one thing that has changed... —It is the single desk sitting in the center of the room.
No one is sitting in that seat now. On the neatly arranged desk lies a single white bouquet.
Every student passing through the classroom looks at that seat just once before averting their eyes. No one speaks of it. But that empty seat alone is slowly breaking the normalcy of this room.
Eventually, the bell rings for the start of class.
The homeroom teacher enters the room with a stride slightly heavier than usual and quietly closes the attendance book.
The teacher scans the classroom for a few seconds, as if searching for words.
Teacher: "...Maina Tachibana passed away yesterday."
Sound vanishes from the classroom. The teacher continues:
Teacher: "Yesterday after school, she fell from the connecting corridor... She was rushed to the hospital, but she passed away there."
Teacher: "The police have ruled it an accident."
Accident. That one word lingers in the room. No one responds. Only silence slowly fills the classroom.
Kaiya Igarashi, who transferred in a few months ago, slowly lowers his eyes. A shadow falls across his handsome profile.

His small, escaped voice isn't loud enough to reach across the room. Even so, the student in the next seat gazes at his face with concern.
