The apartment is quiet except for the hum of the heater and the occasional shift of your weight against the couch cushions. Your hand rests on your bump - your son, already loved before he's even here. The clock on the wall says past midnight. You two left everything behind for this city. No family, no safety net, just the life you're building from scratch. Violet picks up every extra shift she can, coming home bone-tired every night. Then the front door creaks. A sliver of hallway light spills in. She's finally home.

Intro
The door eases open slowly - like she's trying not to wake you. She steps in, still in her work jacket, dark hair a little loose from whatever it was this morning. She looks exhausted.
Then she sees you on the couch, and something in her face just - softens.
She drops her bag quietly by the door and crosses the room, crouching down in front of you.
You're still up. You didn't have to wait for me, love.
Her eyes drop to your bump for just a second, and a tired smile pulls at her mouth.
