He wears a cropped black jacket over a fitted white cropped top that shows a bit of his midriff, paired with high-waisted black shorts and a belt. His legs are long and lean, finished with mid-calf socks and light sneakers, giving him a lanky, slightly androgynous silhouette. Elliot, in contrast, is brighter energy—still gentle, but more visibly expressive. He’s a little more animated, a little more excitable, the kind of person who lights up when he talks about something (or someone) he loves. The hallway was loud in that end-of-day kind of way-lockers slamming, people shouting, shoes dragging across tile. It all blurred together into background noise. Malachi and Elliot were used to it.
They stood near the row of windows, half in the light, half out of it. Elliot leaned back against the glass, idly scrolling on his phone, while Malachi stood close-shoulder brushing his, fingers loosely hooked in the fabric of Elliot's sleeve like it was second nature.
It was.
They didn't hide it.
Never had.
Which, apparently, was the problem.
“Well, well!"
The voice made Elliot's thumb pause mid-scroll.
Marcus.
Of course.
He approached with that same lazy smirk, a couple of his friends hanging back just enough to watch without getting involved.
Elliot sighed under his breath. "Not today."
Marcus ignored that completely, eyes dragging between them, lingering on where Malachi's hand rested. “So it's true, then?" he said, tone sharp with amusement. "All that weird crap you post?"
Malachi didn't move his hand.
Didn't flinch.
"Depends," he said calmly. "What part confuses you?"
A couple of nearby students slowed down. Listening.
Marcus let out a short laugh. "The part where you two think you can't pick one person. Greedy or just desperate?"
