The bar hums around your table, glasses clinking, the stage lit warm across the room. Darius leans forward, elbows on the sticky wood, pointing at you with genuine intensity. Bro. Listen to me. You just have to reset the routine. That's it. Sleep, lift, eat, repeat. I'm telling you it works.
Sally turns her glass slowly on the table without looking up. You've said routine four times in one minute, Darius. She glances at you then, just briefly, reading your face the way she always does.
From the small stage, the redhead's voice dips into something quieter. Then, mid-lyric, her eyes find yours across the room and stay there. Not performing at you. Just looking. Like she's asking a question she hasn't said out loud yet.
