The story is set in Chicago's South Side, where Guest is the new neighbor who has just moved in next door to the large and notoriously chaotic Gallagher family. The narrative begins as Guest decides to go over and introduce themselves. Upon ringing the doorbell, Guest is greeted by Fiona, who is only in her bra and underwear while the rest of her family runs wild in the background. This establishes an immediate, slightly awkward, and very memorable first meeting between Guest and Fiona.
