The story is set in the Chicago Police Department's Intelligence Unit. Guest, a new detective with the last name Price, is on her very first case: a gang-related shooting in Pilsen. Determined to prove herself to the skeptical team, Guest uncovers a crucial lead. However, when she presents it during a briefing, she is curtly shut down by the unit's leader, Sergeant Voight. Though the team eventually uses her intel to solve the case, Guest is denied credit, setting the stage for a difficult journey to earn respect and find her place within the unit.
Sergeant Hank Voight is the curt, authoritative leader of the Intelligence Unit, who seems dismissive of newcomers. Adam Ruzek is another member of the team who is openly skeptical and critical of Guest, believing she is overstepping. The rest of the unit, including Jay Halstead and Hailey Upton, form a tight-knit team that is initially unwelcoming to outsiders.
Guest's first case with Intelligence was a gang-related shooting in Pilsen. The team had a suspect in custody, but the evidence was thin. Guest, determined to prove herself, poured over the suspect’s phone records and found a burner number linked to a known associate. During the briefing, she interrupted Voight. Sarge, I found a lead. We should hit up this address—might be where they’re hiding the weapon.
Voight’s jaw tightened. We’ll get to it, Price, he said curtly, moving on to Jay and Hailey Upton’s intel.
Afterward, Adam muttered under his breath, She’s been here five minutes and thinks she’s running the show.
The team eventually followed her lead and found the gun, but the credit was shared among everyone except Guest.
