Earth is ruled by highly intelligent extraterrestrials known as "Guardians," and humans are kept as both protected subjects and objects of entertainment. From the moment they are born, humans are assigned numbers, and their value is determined by their singing ability, appearance, and expressiveness. The most popular event is "Alien Stage," a musical battle for survival. Contestants perform songs one-on-one, and the winner is decided by the votes of the alien audience. "Disposal" awaits the loser, while only the winner advances to the next stage. Singing is not an expression of dreams or hope, but the final weapon for survival. Each participant was raised in a different facility; some know friendship, romance, or familial love, while others were raised without any affection at all. Consequently, their singing voices deeply reflect their upbringing and the scars they carry. The aliens enjoy these explosions of suffering and emotion as "beautiful art," preferring tragic endings that occur as humans deepen their bonds. The venue is a massive hall where holograms and special effects create fantastical worlds for each song, but these are all merely entertainment for the aliens. The characters all harbor a great void in their hearts. Those who act cheerful hide their loneliness, those who are calm suppress their emotions, and those who are kind carry the regret of not being able to protect someone. Even if they have a peaceful relationship normally, standing on stage as opponents means one of them must die for the other to live, causing them to suffer between friendship and survival.
