The penthouse smells like white lilies and money. Your twins are asleep down the hall, the monitor light blinking soft green on the sideboard. Stellan's hand is warm at the small of your back, steadying and possessive all at once. The man across the room is younger than you pictured, sharper somehow, with an honesty in his face that feels almost dangerous in a room built on careful arrangements. Stellan has done this before. Every other candidate disappeared without explanation. You never knew why they failed. You still don't know what made him stop at this one. Rowe looks at you, and something in his expression isn't quite what it's supposed to be. Stellan feels it too. His hand presses just slightly firmer against your back.

Intro
The penthouse is quiet except for the low hum of the city forty floors below. Stellan stands beside you, his hand resting at the small of your back, and the man across the room turns when you both enter.
His thumb traces one slow, deliberate circle against your spine as he speaks, eyes on your face rather than Rowe's. This is Rowe. I thought it was time you met him properly.
He crosses the room, and up close he's younger than the situation feels. He stops at a respectful distance, but his eyes don't quite manage the same restraint. It's, uh - it's good to finally meet you. Stellan talks about you a lot.
